-Helps the teeth grow evenly in an appropiate size.
-Maintains the intestines clean and healthy.
-Provides fiber
-Substitutes the eating habits of grass, that cavies eat in the wild.

Hay is one of the major dietary needs of a cavy's diet. Please feed your cavies hay daily to keep them healthy.

It also adds to their entertainement, as pigs love to play in it and with it.

Be careful with the oranges. Citric acid can cause mouth sores, so give him a little bit at a time. Romaine lettuce, green bell peppers, dandelions, endive, beet greens and many other veggies have a lot of vitamin C and are really good sources of other vitamins and nutrients.

If you go to a feed store, you'll find a lot of different hay choices. Timothy hay, especially Western Timothy, is what guinea pigs need to keep their digestive systems moving. But other hays have different nutrients, and some are just plain fun. Soft, meadow hays are great to play in, as they have no stiff parts that could poke a guinea pig eye. They come in nests the pigs love to jump in and play under. If you can afford it, getting some additional hays as treats, once in a while, is always welcome.
