| This condition is similar to heat stress but more dangerous and may lead to death. This condition is based on excessive ammounts of heat the body has abosorbed. This condition is classified as a medical emergency that needs to be taken care of immediately, by not doing so your cavy may suffer from complications and this may lead to death. The treatment consist of drugs and medical divices that will control the heat inside the body. PLEASE be very careful when letting your cavy(s) outdoors. These conditions are not very easy to handle and your cavy(s) may die due to complications and stress. Cavies are very stressful furry animals, because of their natural instint, they are prey animals in the wild. | |

| I, too, had heard the freezer trick before. You cannot get them wet before you put them in the freezer either. | |

| That is too quick if placing in the freezer. They can go into a shock. Best way is to wipe them down with cool rag or gently dip your cavy in luke warm water. | |

| Oddly enough, my vet recommended that trick. My cavy really loved running around in there. | |

| Did your vet tell you about the little footies you can put on them b/c their witty feetsies need something so they don't stick to the metal or ice. | |

| I think the bottle of iced water would work for me, the freezer is cold and it might cause them any upper respiratory problems. They are so delicate! | |

| No...he forgot to mention the footies! I will have to speak with him about that. Freezers are ok for their lungs, it's those darned cedar shavings that hurt the lungs. BJ's mom, has your vet ever told you that you can feed your muskrats bacon and cheese? | |

| Do Not Freeze Piggies!!!!! Actually, if it's the only way to cool down a room, leaving the freezer door open might help, but putting piggies in the freezer is not a good idea. They get use to certain temps, and although in the wild they may live where it gets very cold, mine start to fluff up and huddle under fleeces when it's gets in the low 60s faranheit. Freezers are way too cold for piggies not hardened to cold weather. Anyway, the penguins take up the whole freezer, so there's no room for the piggies. | |

| I heard that method for chinchillas but not for piggies, buns or other small pets.
animal lover you make it sound funny how you have wittle socks for the footsy and wittle hats to put on their heads. I agree with Laurie, too cold and too quick for them | |

| The freezer is to cold, they have a limit. In the wild they are exposed to cold temperatures, but they also have hiding places. Wouldn't it be nice to keep them warm and provide a bottle of freeze water and let them play around it, you can also set a fan not directly to them, but as long as they get the breeze. | |
